As you view this gallery of photos, we would imagine that you are going to be as shocked as we were when we walked this three acre cemetery. Years of neglect will do that. How could this happen in the middle of town? Thousands of people pass by these graves every day. Our answer was a surprise to us as much as the conditions of the cemetery. No perpetual care! That’s right, the graves are owned by the families who purchased the plots.
When a family becomes unable to care for their loved one’s grave for many reasons; they move away, the family dies out, they are unable to physically do the work, or for any other reason the grave becomes neglected. There is also natural deterioration, vandalism, and accidents.
The City of Fayetteville cuts the grass, weed eats, and blows the clippings off the road but does no repairs to the tombstones, brick or block walls, or no cleaning of the headstones. They do not pick up limbs, trim bushes, cut tree limbs, rake leaves, mulch, or separate bulbs, etc. This is why we need your support.
